IAA 2012: Environment Friendly Trucks & Vans

Electric & Hybrid Engines. Green Vehicles at the IAA 2012 in Hanover Germany. The Sprinter E-Cell prototype celebrates its world premiere. With a range of 135 kilometers it is perfectly suited for downtown areas, short highway trips and country roads. Before the Sprinter E-CELL goes into production, it has to convince potential customers on the IAA. It`s already the second electric van from Mercedes-Benz and a further development of the Vito E-CELL. For example the battery charging time was reduced to two hours. Also new this year -- the Vito E-CELL crewbus. It is the first Van worldwide with seven seats for locally emission-free passenger transport. Like the box van with the electric power train the crewbus has a range about 130 kilometers. Also the Atego BlueTec Hybrid from Mercedes-Benz and the Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid offer an alternative power train. Driving saves fuel, breaking generates energy. That's the principle of the parallel hybrid power train. An aerodynamic design also saves fuel and emissions. The so called Aerodynamics Truck by Mercedes-Benz shows good shape in the wind tunnel. The MAN Concept S also offers less air resistance. The BlueEFFICIENCY technology by Mercedes-Benz provides further saving potential like in the Citan. This includes: the ECO start/stop function, tyres with optimised rolling resistance, battery and generator management. At the Citan it saves 0.4 liters per 100 kilometers. However the new City Van only needs 4.3 liter per 100 ...
