Start up of Tank on a warm summer night. Since the first video, I had a bunch of maintenance done. Sounds much better, though the crappy microphone doesn't do it justice. I'll see if I can find a better microphone somewhere... Since Flake-o-pedia took down my supplemental to the W123, I'll post it on here so anyone who is interested in owning one of these wonderful cars has some good info to start out with. == Legacy/Reliability == Perhaps the best testament to the legacy of the W123 style is the unsurpassed reliability they have come to be known for, especially in diesel guise. The OM616 and OM617 engines, if well maintained, will run into the hundreds of thousands of miles with little to no problems. Unlike the later OM60x aluminum head engines, the OM61x engines did not have hydraulic lifters, which requires that valve clearances be adjusted manually. However, the cast-iron OM617 never had the early issues faced by the OM60x's with the trap oxidizers and early casting numbers (#17-22 are safe, I believe). The vacuum modulated automatic transmission, though not as robust, will last quite a long time provided the owner maintains it with fluid changes and limiting the wear and tear usually found in aggressive driving. If there are any negatives to the W123, one is the rust that inevitably starts to set in due to their age and exposure to the elements. This is more true in areas that see a lot of snow, but not always. Even W123's that see a lot of snow can be well cared ...
